#25: He Becomes a Dependable Western Star for Universal in the Early 1950s
Audie starred in a rapid series of Westerns, including The Cimarron Kid, The Duel at Silver Creek, Gunsmoke, Column South, Tumbleweed, and Ride Clear of Diablo. The films kept him continually visible to American audiences.

His quiet delivery and youthful appearance worked well in stories about underestimated gunfighters and reluctant heroes. Although the movies varied in quality, they made him one of Universal’s most reliable leading men. One role would soon perfect that familiar screen image.
