The Life of American Hero and Old Hollywood Icon Audie Murphy

In May 1970, Audie was charged with battery and assault with intent to commit murder following a confrontation with a dog trainer. Prosecutors alleged that the dispute became violent and involved a firearm.

Audie denied firing a gun and maintained that he had acted in self-defense. A jury eventually acquitted him, but the case generated damaging publicity while his career and finances were already struggling. Even under pressure, however, he refused an easy source of money.
