Salvatore “Toto” Riina was the brutal boss of the Sicilian Mafia, known as Cosa Nostra. Rising from Corleone, Sicily, he led the organization through its most violent era in the 1980s and 1990s. Riina’s reign brought bombings, assassinations, and terror to Italy as he targeted anyone who opposed him.

He ordered the killings of anti-Mafia judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, shocking the nation and triggering a massive crackdown. Riina ruled through fear, even among his own men. Arrested in 1993 after decades on the run, he died in prison in 2017, remembered as one of Italy’s cruelest mobsters.
