Rafael Caro Quintero was a Mexican drug trafficker and one of the founders of the Guadalajara Cartel. In the 1980s, he helped pioneer large-scale marijuana and cocaine smuggling into the United States. His empire stretched across Mexico, backed by corruption and brutal enforcement.

Caro Quintero became infamous for ordering the 1985 kidnapping and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, which brought international outrage. Arrested the same year, he served decades in prison before being released on a technicality in 2013. Recaptured in 2022, his legacy remains one of violence and betrayal in Mexico’s drug wars.
