#14: Carole Lombard and Tailored Ease
Carole Lombard dressed like someone in motion. Wide-leg trousers, sharp coats, sensible heels—clothes that allowed her to move, joke, travel, and exist without restriction. Even when tailored, her look never felt stiff. There was practicality here, softened by confidence and an unforced femininity.

What’s striking is how little performance there is. Lombard wore menswear-inspired pieces naturally, not as provocation but preference. She treated fashion as part of daily life, not spectacle. Long before off-duty style became a concept, she showed that comfort, wit, and polish could coexist effortlessly.
