Allan Melvin’s face and voice were fixtures on classic television. Before and after All in the Family, he appeared in The Brady Bunch, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., and Archie Bunker’s Place, and later became a prolific voice actor for cartoons like Magilla Gorilla and Smurfs.

Melvin passed away in 2008 at age 84, remembered as one of TV’s most dependable and beloved character actors. His friendly smile and warm humor helped define the golden age of sitcoms. For All in the Family fans, he’ll always be the guy keeping Archie company at the bar—beer in hand, grin on face.
